For some reason that AOL doesn't even know (or maybe just won't admit to), AOL subscribers who wish to become registered members of Dark Shadows Forums cannot receive e-mail from this forum. The ability to receive e-mail is essential when registering because that's how the confirmation e-mail containing an initial password which allows a new member to log in to the forum for the first time is received.

Therefore, in order for AOL subscribers to be able to register and receive e-mail, they must set up an e-mail account on a service like Hotmail or some other free Web based e-mail service provider. When they register, they must enter this new e-mail as their e-mail address to receive their registration confirmation and keep the account active in order to receive forum updates.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause AOL subscribers. But the real culprit behind the problem is AOL. And as already stated, they don't know why the problem exists (or at least their not willing to admit it if they do) and they're unwilling to discuss the matter further.
