Computer Whizes Please
« on: July 25, 2017, 05:16:43 AM »
I need a new laptop.

I like Windows (please don't boot me out MB).

But now, it's ONLY Win 10, which I've heard so many bad things about.

MB, many is the time one of us says __________________error/couldn't log on, etc, etc, etc.

You then reply with you went on IE, or Chrome or other OSs.

Can a computer have two different operating systems?

If not, how could I dump Win 10 & install Win 8?

(Don't know how many cousins are on Win 10 now.)

Primarily, I need Microsoft Office; 'kinda' office-y type things don't get the job done, IMHO.

Thanks,

Patti

Patti, I know nothing about these things, but I've had Win 10 for a while and haven't had any problems.  I recently had the computer "in the shop" to have it checked out and minor things cleaned up.  The tech mentioned improvements with the latest version of Win 10 and installed that.  So, a new computer would presumably have that.

I got a new computer as a birthday present a few months ago.  Mine was ready for the Smithsonian.  The new one has windows 10 and I find it rather dreadful.  It's very - to me - complicated to use.  I would create files in the appropriate categories (word; pictures, etc.) and then couldn't find them even when I did a search.  I finally called help and got a nice guy (from India, of course) and explained the problem.  He told me he was unfamiliar with 10 since he still had 8.  He had to pull out a manual and had me try this and that to no success.  Finally, he asked if he could take over my computer and did so, looking all over the thing and becoming frustrated himself.  He said:  "This is stupid!  Why did they make it so complicated?"  Eventually he found the files buried under this and that and pulled them out, setting them up independently so I could find and use them.

Yes. As a matter of fact I've seen desktops/laptops for sale with both Windows 8 and 10 on them...

Gerard, I've heard so many people say there's ALWAYS updates, which take up so much room.
Josette, glad it's working out for your.

MB, how could I (presumably, the one I'll buy will have 10 installed), install Win 8. Also, how do I make Win 8 the 'main' OS?

Thanks all.
