AVAST THERE YE MATEYS

Two annoying and newish things:

a) EVERY time I'm on a shopping site, and I'm reading about a specific item, the Avast logo comes up, and it says: 3 more found cheaper. So, a couple of times I've followed it; yes, if I'm looking at a (just using an example) Yankee Candle item, it will take me to candles, but nothing like I was looking at. I've no idea how to 'block' that.

b)...and newer. EVERY time I come on to any site, when I end it, there's a small box with a red circle/x through it, and the message is 'connection with server was ended'....even BEFORE I'll go on the site.

??

Patti, uncheck the box in the GENERAL settings that says "Enable reputation services".

And under COMPONENTS use the "Browser Clean-up Tool" to check your browser for weird "add-ons"...

I bounce back and forth from using Firefox to Chrome and every once in a while they will do something strange like what you're describing.

I will say that I've never seen Avast tell me that it's found a better price on something I'm browsing, which leads me to believe that it's something a little goofy with your browser.

Hope this helps you!   RQ

Hoping someone MB can help.

Even before I go on the Interweb, I ALWAYS get a small box with an 'X', saying couldn't connect or something. I don't have any probs getting on the web...this is annoying.

Is this a problem (more than just an annoyance)?

Patti I did notice that Avast has added that "Safe-Price" add-on to their browser package, but you can disable it in the "Add-Ons" section of your browser.  Hope that helps.

I did disable it, so, now I don't get..."Wait, it's 6.25 cheaper at ___________"
Now, sometimes, I'll get, wait, its 30 (I don't believe we have the type for Euros).

Still thank RQ.

Can anyone help me please?

I have stuff to do before going to work & giving my resignation.

Somehow, I'm being charged $59.xx for Avast.

I NEVER signed up for this; but, going to their site's just a (un) merry-go-round.

If someone has a few minutes, can you post a link on here....I don't want to just cancel, I WANT MY MONEY BACK...$59 is a lot for me.

Thanks

Patti

Patti, in the fine print somewhere it probably said you had a set amount of time to use Avast before they would charge you for it. If they've charged you, somewhere along the way, perhaps to even get a free trial, they must have asked you for your credit card number. Some free trials do that. Like I mentioned, they give you the set amount of time to use the software and if you're still using it after that time expires, they charge you. If that's the case, it's doubtful you'll be able to get your money back because they'll simply say you should have canceled your use of Avast before that time expired. More than likely they actually hope people will forget to cancel so that they can charge them.  [ghost_angry]

MB, I got Avast on my older Windows computer.

Chromebooks are sooooo safe they can't get hacked, therefore you can't add any protection.

I have NOT had Avast on my Chromebook, ever.

Avast doesn't know you've switched computers. They probably think you're still using it on the older computer. And if you didn't cancel Avast before switching to the chromebook, from Avast's POV, it's logical for them to think that.

Sometimes they'll trick you into the paid version trial, but IDK how they'd get your payment info originally.  That's very strange... Unless you do have a virus that found your info stored somewhere else.

I've used it for years and never paid for it.  I'm sorry if I somehow had a hand in this happening, by recommending the program to begin with. [sad10] [sad10]
