Current Talk '24 I / If Laura Stayed
« on: December 17, 2019, 04:21:43 PM »
Had Diana Millay decided to stay on DS, would they have done to Laura what they did to Barnabas by making her much less a villain and more likeable?

When Dr. Guthrie confronts her about being one of the undead, he says he can help her if she wishes.  I was wondering if there would be a Julia like storyline with Guthrie trying to cure Laura and then the show going back in time to her past to how she originally came to be a Phoenix.

Calendar Events / Announcements '24 I / James Hall Mention in New Book
« on: December 01, 2019, 05:09:53 PM »
James Hall is mentioned a few times in the book "The Downtown Pop Underground" by Kembrew McLeod about the start of American Bohemia in the 60's & 70's.  He's mentioned a few times as being part of a small actors group in the East Village.  Although DS isn't mentioned.  His name is on a flyer for "Fire Escape Theater" in "Suicode Notations".  In addition to playing a character (a sleepwalking poet), he is also the director.  It was on 87 Christopher Street 10/22/72.

Carolyn and Vicky both mentioned that Dr. Guthrie had the run of the entire house while he was there.
He mentioned that he found some things they were better off not knowing.

I know this was not planned at all at the time, but could he have found the parallel time room or Quentin's staircase or even 1897 Quentin's telephone and though it best not to inform them any of this?

Calendar Events / Announcements '24 I / 1897 Concordance Volume 2
« on: November 07, 2019, 03:13:35 PM »
Should I take it this will never be published?

There was a time in the mid 90's it was going to be made available at one of the conventions and then was held back.

At least I have the original full 1897 Concordance.

I checked on the links he provided to the audio, but I couldn't hear anything.
He also hasn't posted in a while.

It was due to the sloppy way he was eating eggs in a scene with Vicky in his cottage.

It's the Dark Shadows From the Beginning Site.  He says he has been able to separate the audio in the control booth from the sound and hears what Lela Swift and Dan Curtis are saying.

As per another DS website, Lela Swift got George Mitchell fired because he looked too sloppy in the role.

As I read on another DS website, Lela Swift got Mark Allen fired for his harassing of AM and KLS.  Both threatened to leave otherwise.

From Amazon:

The bohemian, free-spirited existence that blessed many of Manhattan’s gifted artists and writers in the nineteen fifties and sixties has, with current skyrocketing rents and the high-income requirements of basic living, been nearly extinguished. And only for the likes of an astute observer such as Joseph Caldwell, perhaps be almost forgotten. In his charming, brutally candid memoir, the author describes his tenure working at WQXR, the venerated classical music station, marching in civil protests and being arrested, his accomplished acquaintances, all of it part of the libertine life of a young gay man who becomes a noted playwright and novelist and Rome Prize winner. But then the mantle of the AIDS epidemic falls heavily on the city and exultation in free love and sex is replaced by unrelenting fear. In a twist of fate, a quixotic love that plagues Caldwell his entire life gives him one last chance at a relationship but in a completely unexpected and tragic ways. This memoir is an important chronicle of the changing tide of artistic and gay life in New York City in the shadow of the plague years.

When Cassandra showed up in the present, she tells Barnabas' portrait "Had it not been for Victoria Winters going into the past, I never would have known you were released from your chains".

Current Talk '24 I / The Beginning of 1795
« on: June 27, 2019, 11:14:18 PM »
The first time I watched DS, I missed the episode with the seance, so when I saw DS in 1795 it was really jarring.  Despite the constant repetition of the opening voiceover, I was still confused for a while, as I'm sure others who missed the seance episode were too.  They needed to clarify the Vicky/Phyllis connection and the situation at the seance.

At first I thought Vicky had taken over the body of Phyllis Wick, while the audience sees Vicky, the characters see Phyllis.  Then when Vicky talks with Jeremiah, it appears that Burke has also traveled back in time and taken over Jeremiah's body without realizing it.  This is when Jeremiah tells Vicky he feels as though he knows her somehow.

It looked there was going to be a storyline with a Vicky/Burke/Jeremiah twist but then that suddenly was dropped.

The Vicky/Phyllis connection was spoiled by a fanzine at the time so I finally understood it, but just missing that one episode was so confusing!
